Lee Swillingham & Stuart Spalding
Suburbia’s Creative Directors and founders are Lee Swillingham and Stuart Spalding. Formerly creative directors of The Face magazine in its 1990′s heyday, they later went on to develop Pop and then Love magazines for Conde Nast. Their work has won numerous awards and has been celebrated in books, newspapers and magazines. They founded Suburbia in 2001.
Prior to joining Suburbia as Managing Director, Richard Hinzel started his media career in journalism as an editor at Wallpaper* magazine before joining the publishing group’s creative agency Winkreative working on accounts as diverse as Swiss international Airlines, Moncler and Selfridges & Co. He went on to SelectNY in New York, working on beauty, fragrance and fashion accounts including Hugo Boss, Davidoff fragrances and Coty before returning to London as the Managing Director of SelectNY’s London operations. Hinzel is also a partner in Joe Doucet x Partners, an award-winning agency specialising in brand innovation strategies, product design, environmental and retail design, packaging and architecture.
Nick Young began his career in advertising working for Wunderman/Y+R before co-founding Lowe Direct in 1996. As a digital and direct marketing specialist, the agency was at the forefront of the first dotcom boom, providing strategy and implementation across all media for clients including Egg and WGSN, as well as global campaigns for blue-chip brands, such as Orange and Stella Artois. Nick joined Suburbia in 2011 as Chairman to add to their strategic offering and help oversee the Company’s expansion. Nick is also a partner with Kelly Hoppen in kellyhoppen.com, a prestige online homewares business.
